Varanasi, India

Just started working on my dream project - a humble attempt to paint Varanasi, India. Varanasi is situated on the banks of river Ganges, and is also known as Kashi, or Banaras. The location of this city and the history behind it is quite fascinating. Varanasi is considered to be the oldest city in the history of world, and as Mark Twain attempts to put it in words, "Benaras is older than history, older than traditions, older than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together." Bathing in the holy water of the ganges at its "Ghats" is said to wash away to sins of mortals.

3 "Ghats" (pathway to the banks of river) are depicted in this painting. The Ahilya Ghat, Dashashyamedh Ghat, and the Prayag Ghat.
